4 Spots in Your Home That Must Have a Carpet

Adding a carpet to your home is a great way to give it a chic makeover. Carpets can evoke strong positive emotions and add character and warmth to any room. In addition, they can reduce airborne noises by up to as much as 35 percent.

Here are some of the best places in a home to put a carpet.

The Entryway or Foyer

A carpet in your entryway or foyer can make your guests feel welcome. The foyer is around 2-4 percent of the total square footage of a house. It gets a lot of foot traffic. An entryway carpet protects the flooring in this high-foot-traffic area. Shoes track in dirt. An entryway carpet catches dirt and dust from dirty footwear, so you need not spend several hours trying to maintain a clean home.

If you do not have a foyer or vestibule, a strategically placed carpet can help demarcate and define your entryway. Use rugs made from coarse materials such as jute or cotton in the entryway as they are easy to maintain and absorb more dust than softer materials. If you have a long, narrow foyer, use a 2 x 8 ft carpet. For a wider foyer, a 5 x 7 ft carpet placed horizontally will do the trick.

Under the Dining Table

A rug framing the dining table can help set the tone for a warm family dinner. Place a rug right under your dining table in a way that covers a considerable area. For best placement, call in one of our experts, although we are recognized as a carpet installation company in Napa, we are happy to hear requests and inquiries to make aesthetically pleasing living spaces. We have even created a 24-inch perimeter of extra carpet around the dining table for a more intimate effect. Extra carpet is useful for preventing the legs of the chairs in your dining table from getting caught on the edge.

If your dining table set includes six chairs, opt for an 8 x 10 ft rug. For an eight-seater dining room set, use a 9 x 12 ft carpet. Homeowners with a ten-seater dining room set will want to opt for a 10 x 12 ft carpet.

Hallways and Staircases

Installing carpet in your hallway and staircases is a great way to add warmth to these in-between areas. Staircase rugs can provide a sense of continuity between two different floors. Place a carpet right in the center of your staircase or cover the entire length of every step.

In the hallway, a rug can visually connect two or more rooms. If you have a narrow hallway, look for a carpet that leaves 6-12 inches of space on both sides and can help make your space feel more spacious.

The Living Room

Since carpets have the effect of absorbing sound they’re a great option if you have children. Having rugs can help reduce the sound of kids running around and playing. Carpets also help insulate living rooms in colder climates, keeping your living room warmer for longer and reducing energy bills. Use a carpet or rug to anchor the seating arrangement in your living room. Let the front and back legs of the chairs and sofas in your living room stay on the carpet. However, if you want to maximize space, keep the front legs of the living room furniture on the carpet.
